manzanar ca.

i had never been to the sacred ground that is manzanar before. a piece of seemingly barren land sitting in a seemingly barren valley sitting on the east side of the seemingly endless sierra nevada mountain range. a small brown sign pointing the way to a small gravel lot. one square mile. 10,000 japanese. a village from the ashes. gardens from the dust. a backdrop from tibet. india. afghanistan. california. a reminder to make fruit and love grow where none is. love in a hopeless place. next time you find yourself on the way to the mammoth mountain. stop here. walk here. breath here. and remember here. all photos by angie/s/p.
